Picture yourself standing in the middle of a battlefield. You're tired. The dust clings to your skin. All around you're the sounds of struggle, fear, fatigue, and the voice inside that says you're not enough. And just when you think you've reached your limit, someone taps your shoulder and says: "Hey, the war's already over. You've already won."
That's what 1 Corinthians 15:57 does for us. "But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
This verse isn't a pat on the back. It's a jolt to your soul. A reframing of your identity. A rally cry for how you live, lead, and show up in life and business.
Let's break it open.
Victory Is a Starting Line, Not a Finish Line
Too many people treat victory like it's far off. Like if they just work hard enough, stay late enough, read one more leadership book, or crush one more project, they'll finally be enough. That's a dangerous game, friend. Because when success becomes your savior, you'll sacrifice everything chasing it, including your health, your family, and your peace. And even if you win, you lose.
But what if you started from victory, instead of striving for it?
That's the shock of 1 Corinthians 15:57. Paul doesn't say, "Run hard so maybe one day you'll win." He says, "Thanks be to God, He gives us the victory." That verb gives is active and continuous. It's not past tense. It's present. Ongoing. A fresh download of grace for each new day.
So if the war over death and sin is already won, what are we doing? We're not trying to earn victory. We're living like people who already have it.
That changes how you show up on Monday morning.
Death Doesn't Get the Final Word, And Neither Does Failure
Let's talk about one of your biggest fears.
Not spiders.
Not public speaking.
Failure.
It creeps in every time a campaign tanks, a deal falls through, or a decision backfires. Failure loves to whisper, "This is who you're now." But if the worst thing that could happen, death, has already been conquered by Christ, then what power does failure actually have over you?
Answer: only what you give it.
Resurrection isn't just for the grave. It's for your goals, your leadership, your creativity, your relationships. If Jesus rose, then so can you. Again and again. Every time something you've built dies, something new can rise in its place.
This isn't just theology. It's your strategy.
From Scarcity to Strength: Building From Abundance
There's a posture that's deadly in business and leadership: scarcity.
It's the mindset that says, "There's not enough." Not enough time. Not enough talent. Not enough trust. It leads to hoarding resources, fearing risk, and playing small. But victory thinking is abundance thinking.
Because you've already received the ultimate resource, life in Christ, you're free to lead with generosity.
To risk. To create. To empower others instead of competing with them.
Let me say it this way: People who know they're victorious don't need to prove they're valuable.
That shift, deep in your heart, releases a confidence that doesn't shout, but strengthens. It's what makes you a safe leader. A bold innovator. A courageous voice in a culture gripped by insecurity.
Live From the Resurrection, Not Reaction
Paul's declaration in 1 Corinthians 15:57 came after a long, masterful argument. He didn't start with the victory, he built to it. He took the Corinthians through the pain, the brokenness, the theology, and the hope. Why? Because they had forgotten that their faith wasn't just intellectual, it was resurrected.
In business, we often lead from reaction. The client's upset. The numbers are off. The team's behind. So we scramble. React. Hustle.
But people who live from resurrection don't live from panic. They live from purpose. From presence. From peace. You don't need to be reactionary when you've been re-raised.
Your Labor Isn't in Vain, So Build What Lasts
Right after verse 57, Paul writes this in verse 58: "Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know your labor in the Lord isn't in vain."
That's the therefore. Because of your victory, work matters. Not because it earns your value, but because it flows from it. Not because it saves you, but because it shapes others.
This is what we need in our teams. In our companies. In our strategies.
People who don't quit when it gets hard. People who aren't swayed by every trend. People who give themselves fully, not because the ROI is guaranteed, but because they're grounded.
Work is sacred when it's done in light of resurrection. And resurrection people don't build for applause, they build for eternity.
So What Now?
Look in the mirror and ask yourself:
- Am I operating like someone who's already won?
- Am I leading from fear, or from freedom?
- Do I treat failure like death, or like fertilizer?
Because you weren't created to hustle your way to worth, you were created to reflect a risen Savior in how you live, love, and lead.
Start from victory. Live like it's true. Build what will last.
And whatever battlefield you're standing on today, business, relationships, or dreams, remember this: The war has already been won.
Now go fight like someone who knows it.
A Prayer for Living and Leading From Victory
Father God,
Thank You for the victory you've already won through Jesus. In the chaos of business, in the weight of leadership, in the quiet fears we carry, remind us that we're not striving for worth, we're standing in it. When we're tempted to hustle for validation or shrink back in fear of failure, anchor us again in the truth: the war is over, and we're Yours.
Give us courage to lead with open hands, to build with eternal purpose, and to rise when we fall, knowing resurrection isn't just for someday, but for this very moment. Teach us to live and lead like people who know the grave has no hold, the scoreboard doesn't define us, and the work we do in You is never in vain.
Let your peace fuel our pace. Let your love shape our leadership. Let your victory quiet our need to prove, and stir in us a passion to serve.
In Jesus' powerful name,
Amen.
Take a moment to breathe, listen, and ask: Where am I still striving instead of standing? Let God meet you there.
Questions and Reflection
Here are three reflection questions designed to help readers dive deeper into today's message and apply it meaningfully:
1. Where in my life or leadership am I still striving for victory, rather than living from the one already given to me in Christ? Explore the areas where performance, fear, or comparison are driving your decisions.
2. What would change in my relationships, work, or mindset if I truly believed that failure doesn't define me and that resurrection is always possible? Let this question unlock boldness, risk-taking, or healing in stuck places.
3. How can I start building with eternal impact rather than just temporary results, both in my personal life and professional goals? Challenge yourself to align your efforts with God's purpose, not just the world's praise.

Your Morning Prayer
Lord, we know what it's like to carry the weight of a business on our shoulders. The pressure to provide, to innovate, to compete, and to lead can feel overwhelming. We understand the sleepless nights, the difficult decisions, and the constant need to balance faith with practical realities.
We ask for your guidance as we navigate these challenges. Help us to see opportunities where others see obstacles. Give us wisdom in our financial decisions, integrity in our dealings with employees and customers, and clarity in our long-term vision. When doubt creeps in, remind us of the purpose you've placed within us and the value we bring to the world.
Help us to lead with compassion and fairness, creating workplaces where people feel valued and respected. Grant us the strength to stand firm in our values, even when it's difficult.
We trust that you're with us, even in the midst of the storm. We believe that with your help, we can overcome any challenge and create businesses that honor you and bless others. Thank you for the opportunity to be a light in the marketplace.
Journal & Reflection
1. What small victory have you experienced in your business this week that reflects God's provision or guidance? How can you celebrate that victory and acknowledge its source?
2. How does understanding your ultimate victory in Christ impact your perspective on current challenges or setbacks in your business?
3. What specific action can you take this week to operate from a place of victory rather than a place of fear or scarcity?
4. Consider your team: How can you encourage them to recognize and celebrate their own victories, both big and small, in light of God's promises?
