A math teacher said that to me in the middle of class. And I believed him. Six months later, I dropped out of high school and joined the United States Navy. Those words haunted me for years. Today, I'm grateful for them: they lit a fire that's never gone out.
During a mission trip to the Crow Indian Reservation in Montana, Prophetess Juanita pulled me aside and asked that question. It hit me like a lightning bolt. I had been searching for blessings: validation, success, recognition: from the outside. Her words shifted everything. I stopped seeking blessings and started becoming one.
No portfolio. No experience. When they asked if I knew InDesign, I said, "No. But I can learn it." That weekend, I earned four Lynda.com certifications. Monday, my supervisor smiled: "See? Told you." That moment taught me something I've never forgotten: willingness to learn beats credentials every time.
I watched Gary Vee perform, absorbed the human-centric marketing philosophy, and realized: "I want to be a marketer when I grow up." I dove into HubSpot Academy and haven't looked back since. That conference didn't just teach me marketing: it showed me that business could be human.
I told my wife, "I honestly feel like I just won the marketing lottery." Marcus, author of "They Ask, You Answer" and one of the most sought-after speakers in marketing, became my mentor. For five years, he challenged me to be better. This was the beginning of a transformative journey that shaped everything about who I am as a marketer, speaker, and human.

From the outside, everything looked great. But at 11:47 PM, staring at my laptop, I wondered if I was failing at business, family, and faith all at once. I had built something successful, but I was losing my soul in the process.
Those writings became my anchor. I wasn't the savior of my business: I was the steward. That shift from hustle fire to holy fire changed everything. The weight didn't disappear, but I stopped trying to carry it alone.
